Around 15 million people practice yoga in the United States, while globally the phenomenon reaches upwards of 300 million. Furthermore US consumer spending on yoga related products has increased by 87% over the past 5 years, to $10.3 million annually.

 

Indeed, if you hadn't realized already this ancient art has become well and truly mainstream and there's no sign of its popularity slowing down. It's a billion dollar market and one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. From the mystical retreats of India to the bustling studios of Los Angeles, people from across the demographic and geographic spectrum are rolling out their mats and contorting their bodies in the name of health, wellbeing and spiritual enlightenment.

 

Everyone from George Clooney to Madonna do it in a slightly different way, and it's the broad appeal of yoga that is most intriguing. Each person you meet seems to get something different out of, and there are whole styles of the discipline that cater to individual sections of society. Dog lover? You can do yoga with your dog. Nudist? Well you're in luck, because you can do yoga in the nude as well!
